The Role

This is a permanent, full time position reporting into our VP, Development & Quality Assurance

What You Will Do

As Director, Development, you will be a member of the Invafresh leadership team with responsibility for managing our development team.

You bring an innovative mind, a proven track record of delivering new software products, rigorous analytical and quantitative skills, and a passion for creating market-leading software solutions. You have a practical commercial focus to innovation and developing valuable technologies.

You will provide technical leadership and guidance and help facilitate the team to build out new capabilities and/or systems that drive efficiency of execution while solving for scale, resilience, and reliability at the same time. You would coach and grow technical leaders and help them be successful individual contributors or managers at Invafresh. You would partner with other technical leaders, drive thought leadership, and help accomplish initiatives outside the immediate scope of responsibility through influence and/or guidance.

  • Lead, manage and develop a team of developers.
  • Modernize a legacy application by using open standards and cloud-based design patterns. Help and support the removal technical debt,
  • Ensure the on-time delivery of high-quality, modern cloud-based software applications and services, while prioritizing based on evolving business requirements.
  • Engage with business leaders to define strategic imperatives and execute roadmaps that create valuable and economically viable customer products and services.
  • Collaborate with product owners, project managers and technical leads to influence scope and priorities for product development, while ensuring modern agile development best practices are followed.
  • Contribute to the transformation of Invafresh by working with our Cloud and DevOps developers to build a state of the art CI/CD focused development environment. Bring a passion to stay on top of tech industry trends and modern agile development best practices, experiment with and learn new technologies, and participate in internal and external technology communities.
  • Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity.
  • Support the organization in adopting a DevOps culture.
  • Develop the scope and budget for potential software development initiatives. Once approved, ensure it is developed to meet requirements on time, on budget, and with a high degree of quality.
  • Provide high-level development project estimates, involving technical leads where appropriate.
  • Ensure project managers are equipped to monitor project cost, risk, and timelines.
  • Serve as standard escalation point for the project management team for any technical project risks, costs, and duration.
  • Ensure quality of all technical outputs meets expectations and modern coding standards.
  • Work on multiple projects in parallel where the projects will have varying scope and timelines.
  • Maintain long-term and big picture plans for client systems, architectures, and technical environment on the cloud.
  • Identify new modern technology opportunities and communicate them to the core team.
  • Define, communicate, and enforce necessary standards and regulatory compliance, particularly in relation to security and privacy.
  • Provide technical guidance to Client Services and Business Development groups relating to sales efforts.
  • Promote knowledge sharing across product-development teams.
  • Provide effective employee performance management utilizing SMART goals, constructive feedback, and coaching for improvement.
  • Co-ordinate employee training to promote employee skills development.
  • Proven success in recruiting, creating, and motivating a strong performing technical team.

Experience & Qualifications

Technical Stack

ReactJS, Node.js, PHP, JavaScript, Jest, Eslint, Babel, Material UI, Ag-grid, Antd, CSS/Bootstrap, Fontawesome, Storybook Library, C/C++, Visual Studio, NetBeans, GNU Compiler, Android/iOS Development tools, Go, Python, Github, Bitbucket, Docker, Kubernetes, Serverless, Serverless, Azure and other cloud-based services, Acunetix, or other web vulnerability scanning software, SQL & NoSQL Databases, Kafka

  • Experience in an industry focused on solution selling, large enterprise software deployments and on-going account engagement, specifically SAAS based solutions and cloud deployments.
  • Bachelor or master’s degree(s) in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years managing leaders of software engineering teams in Web-based and Client/Server applications, including managing multiple on-shore/off-shore software engineering teams.
  • Experience with service-oriented and event-driven system architectures, building high-performance distributed systems.
  • Experience in Cloud based development methodologies, state of the art design patterns and application modernization including 12 factor development.
  • Experience with modern API development using node.js
  • Proficient with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies like Agile, Test- driven development.
  • Experience in DevOps pipelines, based around Github Actions and Azure DevOps an asset.
  • Strong technical background that allows you to advocate for, and support, your team.
  • Experience building strong partnerships with other job functions, like product, marketing and UX, and Cloud Engineering to keep teams collaborating smoothly and working together to improve the product.
  • Strong desire to understand the root cause and details of systems, get hands-on with data and analysis to evaluate how the team and the product are growing.
  • Understands business problems to be solved, and provides technical direction and solution during all phases, including discovery, pre-sales, definition, and delivery.
